BACKGROUND
Ophelia Wilkins joined Kuth Ranieri in 2015. She is a registered architect in the state of California and holds a Masters degree in Architecture from MIT in Cambridge, MA.
At Kuth Ranieri, Ophelia leads Bay Area-based projects for public and educational clients with an emphasis on adaptive-reuse and renovations of existing buildings. She brings a passion to this work for infusing existing buildings rich with history and character with a new vision driven by contemporary client needs. Each project benefits from her holistic thinking and tenacious problem solving. She has also played an integral role in projects at San Francisco International Airport including Harvey Milk Terminal 1, International Terminal Building Phase 1 Refresh and the Terminal 1 Big Room.
Prior to joining Kuth Ranieri, she contributed to numerous projects in the Bay Area including SFO Boarding Area E and Terminal 3 East, space planning for the downtown San Francisco BART stations and design of the 24th and Mission BART Plaza renovation. These varied experiences are linked by a common thread of designing for public clients and creating transit-, bike- and pedestrian-oriented spaces.
From 2007-2010, Ophelia was a Rose Architectural Fellow based in Durango, Colorado where she developed and designed green affordable housing, setting a new normal of deeply energy efficient homes (50% of the area average) and developing a net-zero energy prototype using culturally-appropriate strategies. She has also contributed to design and construction of strawbale homes and public buildings on the Navajo, Hopi, and Turtle Mountain nations.
Her perspective on architecture is informed by a commitment to a locally-oriented pedestrian-powered lifestyle, woodworking, trail running, and a lifelong engagement in craft of various media and scales.
