Rob Marcalow

AIA, NCARB

Senior Associate, East Coast Studio Director

BACKGROUND

Rob Marcalow is a Senior Associate and the Studio Director of KR’s East Coast office in Franklin, MA since 2019. As Studio Director, Rob oversees operations and is closely involved in all projects in New England. He holds an M.Arch from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he was an AIA Medal and WMAIA Scholarship recipient, and a B.A. in Environmental Design from Pitzer College in CA. He joined KR in 2018, bringing professional experience in high-finish airport restaurants, residences, and food halls.

Before moving into architecture, Rob worked in construction for nearly a decade. This deep functional background informs a focus on detail and constructability as well as a clear understanding of the construction process and sequence. Built projects include design, engineering, and construction of a timber frame barn using traditional joinery methods and tools. He is a frequent critic and lecturer at UMass Amherst, where he has taught courses in design, graphic representation and digital fabrication as an adjunct professor.

Outside of work, Rob is an avid skier, mountain biker, and rock climber. On weekends he can be found in the mountains playing with his two young children and his dog Penny, or planting unique species in the backyard orchard and garden.
